  • The New Yorker, like Christopher Hitchens and not like Rachel Sklar, seems to think that men are a lot funnier than women. Out of 133 authors of features under the Shouts and Murmurs banner (in the post-1992 era), the World's Fair blog reports, 17 (a mere 12.8 percent) have been women. Put another way, men are eight times more like to appear in Shouts and Murmurs than women. There has not been a woman author of that section for over three years, since 2004, the site reports—156 weeks. A spokesperson at the New Yorker did not return messages requesting comment by post time. World's Fair
