Political junkies and lovers of made-for-TV movies with large, eclectic casts of B-plus-list indie-hip stars were overjoyed Tuesday when Variety reported that Kevin Spacey, Denis Leary, Tom Wilkinson, Laura Dern, John Hurt, Ed Begley, Jr., and Bob Balaban had all signed up for HBO's 2000 election-themed drama Recount—to be directed by Jay "Austin Powers" Roach.

As pumped as we are about the prospect of Keyzer Söze, the Elephant Man, and the dad from In the Bedroom sharing the screen together, a look back into the archives at some of the power players during the 2000 recount has us thinking we could have made a few alternative suggestions to HBO's casting department.
