nominees are out for this year's MTV Video Music Awards, and at least one category is riddled with pop culture baggage. The Best Video category pits rapper/mogul Kanye West against French electro-house duo Justice, marking the second time the musicians have competed for the award. It's bound to be a tense on-air moment, considering what happened the last time the winner was announced.
In case you missed it, West totally flipped his [expletive] last November at the MTV European Video Music Awards in Denmark, when he stormed the stage like a hazed fratboy after losing best video to Justice v. Simian's "We Are Your Friends." In a drunken rant—the singer later admitted to having too much "sippy, sippy"—West yelled, "[expletive] this! My video cost a million dollars, I had Pam Anderson, I was jumping across canyons and [expletive]!" It was a class act.
We can only wait to see what happens now that the two are again going head to head, a situation made more complicated by the fact that West and Justice are nominated for very similar songs. West's "Stronger" samples a beat from Daft Punk, while Justice "D.A.N.C.E." is clearly derived from Daft Punk's sound and influence. Who knew electro-pop could spawn such drama?
