Whether it was an oversight or just a lack of confidence—or else good agenting—AMC and Lionsgate do not have a third season contract with Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner.

The successful drama about a mysterious and talented New York ad executive in the 1960s helped revitalize AMC as a network. Does the show's producer, Lionsgate, plan to do the show with a different executive producer?

"That would potentially rob it of what made it unique and popular," says one industry insider. "Weiner's vision."

Perhaps even worse, the networks have no contracts with the main actors, Jon Hamm, John Slattery, Elizabeth Moss, and others.

"That probaby makes it dead," the insider added.
