Len Downie Still Leaving Washington Post
Oct. 27 2008, Published 7:07 a.m. ET
This morning's New York Times carries a piece about Washington Post executive editor Len Downie, who "will almost certainly be gone by the time a new president is inaugurated next January. The new publisher, Katharine Weymouth, has been talking about—and talking to—potential successors to Mr. Downie, according to several people who have discussed the matter with her, Mr. Downie and other Post executives." Last week, when RadarOnline.com reported the exact same thing, Downie responded to our e-mail asking, "Are you planning to retire by January 20th?" with a terse "No." Maybe we should have phrased it as "Will you be forced out by then?" Less wiggle room that way.
