Late Night Says WTF, Amuses Self
Oct. 27 2008, Published 7:07 a.m. ET
THE END IS NIGH Stewart Another week of the writers' strike, another four nights of struggling late night talk shows. But, this is the week when it all broke down, when everyone sort of said WTF—let's not just resort to animals, let's fill time with insects and frogs, too! Leno's announcer even started calling out "writer 'strike filler" in the opening list of guests for the night.... and we liked it. And, of course there was the Stewart-Colbert-O'Brien three-way, scraping the bottom of the comedy barrel with desperation and finding some dark, gnarly chunk of entertainment. The end of the writers' strike may be near, but until then, the mess is starting to get sort of amusing.... or maybe we're just drinking more.
