Jessica Simpson: Major Movie Star, Comrade
Oct. 28 2008, Published 5:04 a.m. ET
Although Jessica Simpson has had a successful music career, American audiences haven't taken her quite as seriously as an actress. (Yes, that's a severe understatement.) Her first and only hit was recreating the part of Daisy Duke in The Dukes of Hazzard, and that was three years ago. So it may come as a shock to learn that her new comedy, Major Movie Star was tops at the box office this week—in Russia.
Referred to as "maybe one of the worst films ever made" by someone associated with the production, this lemon—about a movie star who enlists in the Army—never even opened in the United States. Now, not only is it a hit in Russia, the Eastern European distributors expect it to repeat that success when it opens soon in Bulgaria.
"Maybe they think it's a realistic portrayal of the U.S. Army," RadarOnline.com's source goes on.
