  • The latest example of this country's obscene adulation of wealth and conspicuous consumption comes from New York City sweet purveyor Serendipity 3, which today gave the world its first $25,000 ice cream sundae. The dish, called the Frrozen Haute Chocolate sic, and, come to think of it, sick, features a blend of anus-tighteningly expensive cocoas, and is further "infused with 5 grams (0.2 ounces) of edible 23-karat gold and served in a goblet lined with edible gold. At the base of the goblet is an 18-karat gold bracelet with 1 carat of white diamonds."

Restaurateur Stephen Bruce tells Reuters he expects many of the ludicrously priced frozen custard's customers will come from abroad, given that the U.S. dollar is essentially worth less than a square of single-ply toilet paper. Bruce has a firm idea of who might splurge on the icy insult to the proletariat: "I wouldn't be surprised if soon we get a call from a Middle Eastern prince or Shah willing to give something sweet to his many wives on his next trip to the city." Sure thing, Stephen! And maybe then they'll climb onto his magic carpet and fly back to their exotic land of cunning viziers and mystical genies. Reuters
