Ike Turner, author of "Rocket 88" (widely believed to be the first rock song, recorded by Sam Phillips for Sun Records) is dead at age 76. Ike, with singing partner Tina Turner, were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1991. (Ike was in the clink, though, and Tina accepted on his behalf). A hero to wife-beaters everywhere, he was said to have tortured Tina so ambitiously that she tried to kill herself with tranquilizers, only to be awakened by Ike bitching her out. Rumors were spreading that he had signed on to do a reality show with ex-wife Audrey Madison, whom he had claimed had attempted to poison him with prescription pills. With writers on strike, we could have used that.
