THE 300 Gawker's Thermopylae
Media gossip site-turned-brand extender Gawker's droll how-to tome The Gawker Guide to Conquering All Media was published, to much hullabaloo (tightfisted Gawker Media emperor Nick Denton even threw a party at his Soho loft celebrating the title's release), on October 2. Today, Portfolio's Jeff Bercovici looked up its sales using Nielsen BookScan, and found that the book (rumored to have been acquired for $250,000) has sold a whopping 242 copies. Bercovici generously notes that BookScan only tracks about 75 percent of sales, "so you can add another 81 units to that total." So figure 323 then! Portfolio
