Kanye's Moms Inspires Cali Focus on Plastic Surgery Disasters

Six months after Donda West died while undergoing lipo and breast enhancement surgery, legislators in California are looking to resculpt laws governing plastic surgery centers in hopes of preventing disasters. State Sen. Mark Ridley-Thomas has proposed more inspections of clinics that dodge hospital regulations. Assemblywoman Wilmer Amina Carter has called for a requisite physical exam for any patients about to go under the plastic surgery knife. West, 58, had been turned down by one doctor who said she'd be at risk of a heart attack if she underwent the procedure. In the end, Dr. Jan Adams went ahead with the fatal operation.
Some docs in California are already speaking out against further restrictions, including the president of the California Medical Association, whose name is really and truly Dr. Dick Frankenstein. LAT
