HIJACKING HOPE Obama (Photo: Getty Images) Civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) has announced he's switching his presidential endorsement from Hillary Clinton to Barack Obama. Reasons: the "spiritual event" that is the Obama campaign and the fact that he's really scared about losing his job on Capitol Hill.
Lewis said yesterday that the Obama juggernaut signaled a transformational moment in American history "that some of us did not see coming." Unfortunately for Lewis, the vast majority of his Atlanta-area constituents apparently did see it coming when they voted earlier this month in the Georgia primary, including a young civil rights activist who is trying to take his congressional seat. To make up for his flub, Lewis has assured constituents that he will never again use his own powers of discernment in Congress: "The people of the 5th District have spoken. I will never, ever do anything not to be in tune with the voters of the 5th District."
