DON'T DUET Wentz, Simpson

The ghosts of a Saturday Night Live performance gone horribly wrong still linger for Ashlee Simpson. Despite being urged by the crowd to sing karaoke at Angels and Kings, the East Village bar of boyfriend (and Fall Out Boy bassist) Pete Wentz, the nominal blonde/nominal singer repeatedly declined, instead opting to suck down vodka cranberries on stage and smoke cigarettes outside (an activity which she begged photographers not to document). Come on, Ashlee! The words are right in front of you!

Fall Out Boy lead singer Patrick Stump had no such issues, belting out a pitch-perfect rendition of fellow Illinois native R. Kelly's "I Believe I Can Fly." Wentz, though, also chose not to perform, but he did prove himself a compassionate judge. When a female contestant threw an on-stage temper tantrum after being given low scores across the board for her cover of Madonna's "Like a Prayer, Wentz switched his score from a 6 (out of 10) to an 8.

"I like your style," Wentz told the amateur songstress. Too late. "Fuck you and your 8," she snapped back.
