Don’t clown around with Anna Wintour. Thefrosty Vogue editor is furious that a lavish photo spread featuringher 17-year-old daughter, Bee Shaffer, turned up in the middle of the racy“érotico-chic” of the February 2005 French Vogue, alongside pages of bare-breasted models simulating masturbation and arty bondageshots. A source close to the mag says Wintour personally suggested the story toher French Vogue counterpart Carine Roitfeld, hoping to add luster to Shaffer’s image on the international fashion scene. The FrenchVogue portfolio, which followed upbeat Shaffer features in CondéNast’s Tatler and Teen Vogue, pictured the demuredebutante, clad in Chanel, being presented at Paris’s Crillon ball.“Anna closely monitored the photo shoot every step of the way,” oursource says. Unfortunately, she left the placement of the photos up to Roitfeld, who ran them directly after a particularly piquant portfolio by Andres Serranofeaturing two clowns engaged in cunnilingus (above). Livid about theembarrassing proximity, Wintour has been railing against Roitfeld ever since.Maybe she should have settled for a nice profile in Newsweek.
