Rock legend Phil Collins is back on the bottle, RadarOnline.com has learned.
The former Genesis front man, 66, has just launched a new European tour. And in a recent interview, he admitted he now enjoys “a couple of glasses of wine,” and can control his cravings, despite past periods of sobriety.
“I didn’t drink for three years,” Collin said. “I personally do not believe I was an alcoholic. I had a problem with alcohol. I didn’t have anything else to do, and I enjoyed it. But when I had to stop because it was killing me, I stopped.”
Collins was hospitalized in 2012, at the height of his drinking, prompting fears for his health.
The drummer also has admitted to suffering from pancreatitis, and even underwent electroshock therapy for chronic nerve pain earlier this year.
Collins certainly didn’t look well when cameras caught him staggering with a cane out of a recording studio in Miami last month.
“It was really sad to see,” a spy told Radar. “Phil was an amazing performer, but he looks so vulnerable now. He could barely make the walk from the studio door to his car!”
Could the back pain have led him to start drinking again?
Daughter Lily Collins, who for years was estranged from her dad partly because of his drinking, wrote in her memoir that she first noticed he had a problem in her early 20’s,
“I was constantly afraid something would happen to my dad,” she writes. “No matter what I said or how much I expressed my concerns to him, the drinking continued ... I was convinced that one day I would wake up to a phone call from halfway across the world saying that it had finally gone too far.”
