John Stamos finally opened up about his disgraceful DUI last summer, sitting down for Howard Stern's XM radio show on Monday to discuss his shame over the matter .

As RadarOnline.com previously reported, the 52-year-old was charged with a misdemeanor count of driving while under the influence of drugs, after concerned onlookers reported him to Los Angeles police.

"I had a horrific DUI, which I'm so embarrassed by. I could've hurt somebody. It's really stupid and ignorant of me, and I hated myself for that," he told Stern during their candid interview.

"I had to stop this up and down. I was on some medications, antidepressants and that damn Ambien," Stamos continued. "I'm so happy to be off of that. My memory was starting to get really bleeped up — that was the hardest thing to kick, by the way."

The hunky star also revealed that leading up to his June arrest, he'd been struggling with his mother's death, calling her "the love of my life."
