After Jim Carrey was slapped with another wrongful death lawsuit, filed by late ex-girlfriend Cathriona White's mother, the actor's lawyer has come to bat for him, calling the whole thing "ridiculous."

"It is understandable that a mother who has lost a daughter will look for someone to blame," Carrey's lawyer, Martin Singer, wrote in response to the lawsuit. "But in directing her grief and rage at Jim Carrey and joining this ridiculous lawyer's attempt to capitalize on Cathriona's suicide, Mrs. Sweetman is heading down the same dark path as Cathriona's green-card 'husband,' Mark Burton."

As RadarOnline.com previously reported, White's mother, Brigid Sweetman, sued Carrey, alleging that her daughter overdosed after learning Carrey had given her three sexually transmitted diseases. The lawsuit comes just days after White's ex-husband filed a similar case against Carrey.

The new lawsuit also claimed that Carrey shamed White by calling her a "whore," threatening her using "his high-priced Hollywood lawyers and 'fixers' to intimidate and threaten her in a effort to silence her."

But Carrey's attorney was quick to hit back.

"On her 30th birthday, just a few days before her suicide, Cathriona White was distraught having received a message from her mother through Facebook that was so destructive and demoralizing that she instantly deleted her Facebook account so her mother could no longer contact her," Singer revealed.

"Cathriona often lamented about her contentious relationship with her mother, how she was forced to leave home at the age of 15, and how they had been estranged for years," he added.
