The Sounds

Santos House Party is always a buzz with what’s hot in music and fashion, so it was no surprise when the place was packed with a who’s who of music and fashion last night for a “secret” show by Swedish glam-rockers The Sounds.
Frontgal Maja Ivarsson commanded the audience’s attention with her platinum blonde ‘70s-style wings, leather jacket and ripped fishnets. Her red tee shirt was embossed with “New York” in gold, and it was obvious there’s nowhere else in the world she’d rather be. Thumping the microphone against her chest and frequently dropping into squats and side-splits, when not marching around the stage with purpose, Maja led her band through a raucous romp of speedy beats and high-energy rock and roll.
Using the punk-rock blueprint for simple catchy rock songs, paired with the winning formula of an ubercool glammy blonde fronting androgynous rock boys, this Swedish five-piece is a throwback to the ‘70s with a healthy dose of ‘80s synthesizers thrown in. The band debuted songs from their upcoming new album, Crossing the Rubicon, on which they worked with various producers, including Adam Schlesinger and Smashing Pumpkin James Iha.
The secret show was the kick off to a big summer for the Sounds, who will release their new album on June 2nd and hit the road with another high-energy band fronted by a badass blonde, No Doubt. Check out the tour dates below.
