According to reports, Piazza, a New York Native, played Division I ice hockey at Villanova University, before a shoulder injury forced him to quit and led him to pursue a career in acting. After appearing scoring roles in Off Broadway plays and guest spots on television shows, he grabbed attention in the indie film Rocket Science, starring alongside Anna Kendrick.
