Larry King’s wife Shawn overdosed on pills and RadarOnline.com has exclusively obtained the 911 call from the dramatic situation.
“I can’t wake her up,” Shawn’s father Karl Engemann told a 911 operator on May 28 when he found his daughter unresponsive at her Provo, Utah home.
It becomes clear during the call that Shawn, 50, has taken too many pills. The 911 operator dispatches an ambulance to the house.
Engemann, 76, is emphatic that it’s not a suicide attempt.
Engemann, 76, stayed calm throughout the ordeal, following the emergency operator’s instructions until help arrived.
“She’s unconscious. I slap her and I holler at her and she opens her eyes half way and puts them back down again,” he says early in the call.
He also explains that he arrived at Shawn’s house because they were scheduled to go to a meeting together.
“I left my daughter here last night and she was fine,” he says. “I come this morning she’s supposed to have a meeting in a while and she just seems to be out of it.”
Engemann tells the operator he does not know what type of medication Shawn is on and later says she is taking “something to help with her anxiety and her depression.”
He also tells the operator toward the end of the call that Shawn is married to Larry King.
Larry and Shawn both filed for divorce on April 14 this year. After spending some time apart they reconciled but it’s far from a happy marriage multiple sources told RadarOnline.com.
Shawn had an affair with Hector Pinate, her son’s baseball coach. Larry has been accused of having an affair with Shawn’s sister Shannon.
Engemann tells the 911 operator that he last saw Shawn about 11:30 or 11:45 the night before. “I’ve been trying to call her,” he says.
Shawn and Larry have two sons. Shawn went to rehab in 2008 for an addiction to prescription pain pills. She suffered from severe migraines.
“I am extremely supportive of Shawn. Reports that we have fought are absolutely false. I love her dearly,” King said in a statement, responding to the overdose reports. “Our marriage is still together and I am staying very close to our children, who we love immensely. We shall go through this difficult time intact as a family.”
