Susan Boyle’s debut album, I Dreamed a Dream, has blown apart recording industry sales records at a Michael Phelps pace.
I Dreamed A Dream’s hit parade, so far: the only 2009 release to hold the top spot for six weeks in a row; the largest CD pre-order in the history of the Amazon.com; the most album pre-sales for QVC and Barnes & Noble Online and debut for a female artist on the Billboard 200 in the Soundscan. Boyle also holds the distinction of being the first artist in the Billboard 200’s 53-year history to enter the list at the top spot with a debut album and spend six consecutive weeks at the summit.
Boyle went from the anonymity of a small Scottish village to having one of the most recognizable faces and voices in the world, after her breakout debut on Britain’s Got Talent racked up more than 300 million YouTube views, the most for any video last year.
Boyle’s debut album, I Dreamed a Dream, which also features covers of classics such as Daydream Believer, You’ll See and Amazing Grace, is in stores now.
