Roy Edward Disney – nephew of the legendary Walt Disney -died Wednesday at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, California. He was 79.
A source says he had been suffering from cancer and that his wife pulled him off life support Tuesday night.
Disney was a long-time senior executive for the Walt Disney Company, which his father Roy Oliver Disney founded along with his brother Walt in 1923.
Roy Edward Disney still served as a consultant for the company and was Director Emeritus for the Board of Directors. At the time of his death, he was still a shareholder with more than 16 million shares or about 1% of the company.
He is perhaps best known for organizing the ouster of two top Disney executives: first Ron Miller in 1984, and then Michael Eisner in 2005.
