EXCLUSIVE: Daughter of Mama's & Papa's Cass Elliot Defends Mackenzie Phillips

One of Mackenzie Phillips’ closest  friends is rushing to her defense in wake of criticism Mackenzie has received after claiming that her father John Phillips had sex with her and fueled her drug addiction.

In an exclusive interview with RadarOnline.com, The Mama’s & Papa’s Cass Elliot’s daughter, Owen Elliot says: “Mackenzie is my best friend and I know that she would never make up a story like this. I don’t know anyone who would make up a story like this. I absolutely back her up 100 percent.”

Not everyone has reacted positively to Mackenzie’s admission -- including John Phillip’s ex-wife and former Mama’s & Papa’s member, Michelle Phillips, who recently said she believes Mackenzie is “imagining” the story. But Elliot says not so.

“I think a lot of people have a lot of textbook reactions in terms of family members just not really wanting this stuff to be out there,” Elliot told RadarOnline.com. “Because, you know what? It’s sensitive stuff. It’s not laundry people want aired. Some are going to be in denial, some are going to put out the blame.”

Elliot, who says she talks to Mackenzie “constantly”, said Phillips is doing just fine.

“She’s got a lot of support from people in the last 24 hours and I know that has helped her tremendously,” Elliot told RadarOnline.com. “Her sister Chynna stands behind her. She’s doing great.”
