The Costs of eBaying Banksy

HARD SELL Banksy
If a current eBay auction in the UK is any indication, 2008 will be much like 2007, with Banksy's art-world cachet—and his collectors' coffers—expanding exponentially. Enterprising London businessman Luti Fagbenle found his Portobello Road media company the target of the maybe-named, maybe-still-anonymous graffiti artist when a mural suddenly appeared on one of its walls last September. Now he's put the immobile work up for auction, with a current price of more than $400,000—but like most eBay items, the devil is in the shipping details.

The winner of the auction will have to cart the work home at his or her own expense, which in this case means cutting it out of the wall on which it's painted. How that will affect the seller's feedback rating is anyone's guess.
