Tyler Baltierra’s father Butch admitted to relapsing after his prison stint, but is he sober today? RadarOnline.com can exclusively reveal the troubled Teen Mom OG grandpa continues to struggle with his sobriety.
“Butch isn’t sober,” a source close to Baltierra told RadarOnline.com. “He struggles with it.”
Fortunately for the family, Butch is “nothing like he used to be.”
“He talks about it, he sees someone, he doesn’t disappear for days at a time,” the insider explained.
Despite using, Butch is focused on “his relationship with his family.”
In a sneak peek for this week’s episode, Baltierra admitted he wants to convince his father to go to rehab.
“I think I’ve just come to the conclusion that I’m always going to feel angry about it,” he told his wife Catelynn Lowell. “When I was younger, I used to like calling him a crack head. I used to like seeing him angry about that.”
He added, “You can’t help it. You just get angry and you remove yourself from the situation. We know what’s going on here. We’re in control of what’s happening in our environment.”
Butch served a four-year prison sentence for larceny, breaking and entering, and home invasion. He was released in August 2015 just in time to see his son marry Lowell.
After Butch celebrated his one-year release from prison with his family, he got in trouble with the law again.
In October 2016, he was locked up in St. Clair County Jail for six days on an unconfirmed offense. He then served 20 days in jail in November 2016 for driving without a license.
On the reunion show, Baltierra told Dr. Drew Pinsky that he knows “exactly what’s going on” with his father.
“I think he’s using,” he said. “I think he used or relapsed.”
On an episode this season, Butch admitted he hasn’t stayed clean. He also admitted to abusing cocaine in the past.
