Taylor Backlash: 'American Music Awards' Producers Asked Swift NOT To Get Political
Taylor Swift spent a year beefing up her security before she had the courage to make a passionate political statement and now that she has, the backlash has threatened to affect her next performance RadarOnline.com exclusively learned.
Swift, 28, posted an endorsement for Tennessee Democrat Phil Bredesen for Senate on her Instagram, stating that she found his opponent’s position on issues appalling.
“I cannot vote for someone who will not be willing to fight for dignity for ALL Americans, no matter their skin color, gender or who they love. Running for Senate in the state of Tennessee is a woman named Marsha Blackburn. As much as I have in the past and would like to continue voting for women in office, I cannot support Marsha Blackburn. Her voting record in Congress appalls and terrifies me. She voted against equal pay for women. She voted against the Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, which attempts to protect women from domestic violence, stalking, and date rape,” Swift wrote.
Her next public performance was scheduled for the American Music Awards on Tuesday, October 8 and an insider told RadarOnline.com she had been warned about making any controversial statements.
“Producers at AMA have asked Taylor Swift to NOT get political tomorrow night,” a source told Rob Shuter of Straight Shuter Naughty but Nice.
“It’s a night to celebrate music and entertainment and unlike the Grammy awards they do not like political messages or speeches.”

Another source told RadarOnline.com how the Bad Blood singer took extreme measures in the last year to protect her safety. “Taylor is able to comment on politics now after making her apartment in New York City, homes, and cars bulletproof following a series of terrifying security assessments and real threats.”
Swift noted in her political message how she picks the candidates to vote for.
“I always have and always will cast my vote based on which candidate will protect and fight for the human rights I believe we all deserve in this country,” she explained. “I believe in the fight for LGBTQ rights, and that any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender is WRONG. I believe that the systemic racism we still see in this country towards people of color is terrifying, sickening and prevalent.”
“She wanted to say something in 2016 — but the logistics proved impossible,” the source insisted to RadarOnline.com.
The life of a superstar was filled with fears for her safety. “Most people don’t realize the threat she’s up against from a reality standpoint of insane men that want to harm her. She just spent a year remodeling her NYC apartment to make it impenetrable.”
