Despite their large age gap and distance, the two are happy as ever — but the wedding may have to wait.
"This is a long time in the future. We both decided that that would be best," O'Donnell said of her upcoming nuptial. "She lives in Boston now and I live here in New York. It's been a long-distance thing. It's been great. I think she's a wonderful woman."
A source even told RadarOnline.com that the love birds aren't even rushing to move in together, as their current arrangement seems to work perfectly for them.
Fans recall the actress and her cop girlfriend went public on November 2017. Though they've kept a relatively low-profile since, Rooney, 33, recently updated her Instagram bio to include an "R" for Rosie and a diamond emoji, for their engagement.
Speaking to the publication, O'Donnell said that her soon-to-be wife is a strong Army veteran and an undefeated boxer. She is also wildly independent — something the comic truly admires.
"She's very much an equal, she's very much her own person and loves what she does. She's a pretty unbelievable young woman," said O'Donnell.
In the past year, the two have gotten some backlash over their 23-year age gap, Rooney ignores the hate — but O'Donnell takes it quite seriously.
"I keep telling her I'm too old for her. But she doesn't seem to care," she said. "She's like, 'I was in the Army! I put my life on the line every day you think I don't know who I want to date?' I'm like, 'Alright I guess that's true.' She has a lot of good points."
Things get a bit more awkward, however, when people mistake Rooney for O'Donnell's 20-year-old daughter, Chelsea.
"A lot of people say, 'Oh my god, Chelsea looks so great.' I'm like, 'That's not Chelsea.' That's my soon-to-be spouse," she said. Thankfully, Rooney "doesn't seem to think it's an issue at all!"
