‘Sorry, Sorry, Sorry!’ Phil Hartman’s Wife Went Wild With Rage Minutes Before Murder
May 24 2018, Updated 5:16 p.m. ET
Beloved comedian Phil Hartman died instantly on May 28 after his mentally-ill third wife, Brynn Hartman, shot him following a heated argument.
After getting dinner and drinks with friend Ron Douglas that afternoon, Brynn returned to her and Phil’s home in a daze of booze, drugs and fury. She reportedly started a vicious fight, and when he declined to take part in it, she became enraged.
“They were in the bedroom at one point. They started arguing again, she yelled out very loudly ‘Sorry, sorry, sorry sorry.’ Nobody knows what that was about,” says Hartman Biographer, Mike Thomas, in a clip for REELZ’s new docuseries, Phil Hartman: Behind Closed Doors.
“Phil – who hated conflict — retreated from whatever argument she wanted to start, and just went to sleep,” he continues in the promo video. “Brynn may have done more drugs, she may have had more to drink — nobody really knows — but at some point she went to their bathroom and retrieved a gun from the lock box they kept in there. She went back to the bed and stood facing Phil and fired the gun three times.”
As soon as Phil died, a panicked Brynn rushed back to pal Ron Douglas’ house and confessed to the crime, leaving her sleeping children at home, feet from the scene of the murder.
Phil Hartman: Behind Closed Doors airs Sunday, May 27 at 9:00 ET/ 8:00 PT on REELZ.
