The screen heartthrob, who played a pointy-eared elf in The Lord of the Rings flicks,

used the word “pikey,” a slur against gypsies meaning low-class,

to describe himself in a TV interview.

Now he’s being blasted as “racially abusive” by the National Gypsy-Traveller-Roma Council.

The BBC network offered an apology for the actor’s term.
