Megyn Kelly Breaks Down On-Air Over Dog's Death: 'I'll Miss Her Terribly'

Megyn Kelly broke down in tears while thanking fans for their support after losing her beloved dog Basha over the weekend.

On Megyn Kelly TODAY, Kelly, 47, said, "Something sad happened in my life on Friday, hoping to get through this, but my dog died."

She continued that the loss of her dog, who she has had for 14 years, has been "super sad."

"To me it was like, just a reminder how much these little creatures could mean to us," she cried. "How close we get to them. I know some people would say, 'It's just a dog,' but it's been a really emotional weekend."

She then explained how grateful she is for all of the "kindness" she received from social media followers.

"It's, to me, sort of fitting that this dog who brought so much joy into my life, so much love, on her way out, sort of added more in showing me the goodness of humanity," she said. "I'm followed by a bunch of republicans and a bunch of democrats… On this they were uniformly in agreement. They were just full of love and kindness and empathy. I just thought it's a nice moment in a way, even though I'll miss her terribly."

She then urged pet owners to hug their pets and "take a moment to appreciate them while you have them."

"My kids are good, my daughter was really upset," she said. "My boys were pretty good. My little one, Thatcher, just turned 5 today. He's focused on if he could get a new dog for his birthday! I'm so blessed to have my three kids and they mean so much to me."

Kelly broke the news of her dog's death on Saturday with an emotional Twitter post.

"Our dog Basha died today," she captioned a photo of her adorable pooch. "I had 14 beautiful years with her. I am so terribly sad, but also so grateful for the love this little creature brought into my life."
