Torn Apart: Meghan Markle Was 'Very Close' With Her Dad Before Fame, Says Source

Meghan Markle and her dad weren't always estranged, a source exclusively spilled to RadarOnline.com.

Long before Prince Harry's bride-to-be moved into Kensington Palace, Meghan lived with her father for many years. According to a source close to the Markle family, the father-daughter duo were once inseparable.

"Meghan's relationship with her dad wasn't always strained," said the source. "They were very, very close."

The insider admitted there was a definite turning point in the Markle family that caused Meghan to become distant from her dad.

"When Meghan decided to move to Canada, that's when they got separated," the source explained.

As RadarOnline.com readers know, Prince Harry's love lived in Canada while filming Suits - the sitcom she quit once the prince put a ring on her finger.

According to reports, Meghan has not spoken to her dad after he announced Monday he would not be walking his daughter down the aisle on May 19, when she officially marries into the royal family. Thomas said he chose to back out of the extravagant celebration after he was caught taking staged photos with paparazzi.

Thomas then broke the sad news that he suffered a heart attack six days prior. Kensington Palace responded to the drama by issuing a statement asking for respect.

"This is a deeply personal moment for Ms. Markle in the days before her wedding. She and Prince Harry ask again for understanding and respect to be extended to Mr. Markle in this difficult situation," the statement read.

The source told RadarOnline.com Thomas was really looking forward to the royal wedding just a couple weeks ago.

"Last thing we heard from Meghan was that her dad was ready to go and excited to walk her," said the source.

The insider added: "She wanted her dad to be there and be a part of the wedding. It's sad. Meghan wasn't allowed to invite that many people."
