In honor of Metal Health Awareness Month, Big Bang Theory star Mayim Bialik has shared her own story, and video message to other victims struggling with the condition.
“I think what I would have liked to tell my younger self about my mental health is that there are answers,” said the actress in her touching homemade clip obtained by PEOPLE. “For me, some of those answers I had to wait years to find and I needed to get different help, which ended up being really the right kind of help.”
As RadarOnline.com has learned, Bialik, 42, is just the latest celebrity to share a video message about mental health and the stigmas surrounding it for the #MyYoungerSelf campaign. The A-lister-led project began this month, and is aimed at helping victims overcome the shame and face the anxieties created by the disorder.
“But I had this notion when I was younger that if something didn’t work once, or if a therapist didn’t work, or if a medication didn’t work, that nothing would ever work,” the actress added. “I wish I could have told my younger self that something will work — it’s just going to take sometimes more research, sometimes more referrals, and really figuring things out like your life depends on it. Because for me, it did.”
Other celebrities such as Sarah Silverman, Kristen Bell, Gabrielle Union and James Van Der Beek have also taken to social media to share their inspiring videos.
