Good Riddance! 'Betrayed' Matt Lauer Ready To Quit 'Today' Over Megyn Kelly Hire
Matt Lauer is apparently ready to walk away from his $28 million a year Today show gig in a hissy fit over Megyn Kelly’s hiring!
RadarOnline.com has learned Lauer, 59, told NBC honchos, “I quit” — after the Peacock Network crowned former FOX News star Megyn Kelly as its new queen, complete with a hefty $15 million contract!
As RadarOnline.com has reported, Lauer fumed when Kelly, 46, was handed the third hour of Today — and sources claim he plans to pack it in when his current deal expires in 2020.
“It seems Matt felt betrayed that NBC went behind his back to hire Megyn,” an insider spilled to RadarOnline.com. “He probably felt he should’ve been consulted since he’s the big kahuna on Today.”
In addition to frustrating Lauer, Kelly stumbled during her first week, getting poor marks for a toothless interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin and sparking an uproar over her sit-down with a noted conspiracy theorist.

“I think Matt feels Megyn made everybody at Today look foolish,” claimed the source. “Matt has a very short fuse, and it’s all but burned out. He’s clearly had enough and intends to walk away when his deal’s up. What he doesn’t realize yet is why no one’s tried to stop him from leaving!”
Given his huge salary, network insiders believe it’s a blessing in disguise if Lauer’s planning to leave on his own.
“Matt earns more than anybody on Today. The general consensus is ‘Good riddance!’” dished the source.
“No one is going to miss Matt. Some people can’t wait to see the back of him — and think it’s a shame he won’t leave sooner than 2020!”
