Mark Harmon's Druggie Sister Gets A Second Chance!
Mark Harmon was involved in a nasty custody battle with his drug addict sister that destroyed their family. But after years of tension, a source close to the NCIS star exclusively told RadarOnline.com that the siblings have worked through their issues.
“Kristin obviously now recognizes that her brother was trying to help her, and so the tension has somewhat been resolved,” the insider exclusively told RadarOnline.com. “Mark still sends a monthly check, and is very close with his nieces and nephews.”
Harmon, 65, went to court to seek permanent custody of Kristin Nelson and the late Ricky Nelson’s son Sam, who was 12 at the time.
In court, Harmon accused his older sister of being a drug addict and an unfit mother.
“Mark says that his sister Kristin had developed a dependence for prescription drugs, and that his nephew Sam Nelson called him and asked Mark to pick him up because he was frightened of his mom,” the insider said. “Mark decided to try and help Kristin through a drug rehabilitation program, and he attempted to try and gain custody of Sam for a short period of time while Kristin was in rehab.”
On the stand, Harmon's wife Pam Dawber testified that she had seen Nelson “blasted” while shopping and Sam claimed he was afraid to go home. Harmon abruptly dropped the lawsuit in 1987.
Hollywood’s 16 Nastiest Custody Battle
But the insider claims the family tension isn’t completely resolved, as Nelson never thought Dawber was good enough for her actor brother.
“However, it was the comments that Kristin made regarding Pam that increased tension between the two sides,” the source said.

“Kristin apparently never saw Pam as a 'fit wife' for Mark, and the accusations got worse through the custody battle, as Pam obviously was supporting her husband. Mark pretty much never forgot what she said, as he is pretty protective over Pam, and so there is still some sensitive air.”
The family drama couldn’t have been resolved at a better time, as Nelson, 71, was hospitalized in New Mexico in February for pneumonia, which turned into the staph infection MRSA.
Although RadarOnline.com reported that he hadn’t visited her at the time, the insider reveals he “recently spent the weekend in New Mexico to see his sister.”
