Killer Chris Watts' Mistress ‘Pushed' Him To Fix Marriage Before He Murdered Family
Killer dad Chris Watts’ mistress wanted him to repair his broken marriage to his wife before he killed her and their two daughters, according to a police interview exclusively obtained by RadarOnline.com.
In the damning audio, featured above, Nichol Kessinger – the woman Chris was having an affair with when he murdered his wife and children in mid-August– told police in an interview after his arrest that the troubled father insisted he and Shanann Watts, 34, were separated and on the brink of divorce.
Kessinger said she and Chris communicated often and were regularly intimate with one another. The mistress recalled visiting the Watts’ family home twice – and that’s when she started urging Chris to fix things with his wife.
“But then being in that house, I was just like, why? Fix this. Find a way to make this work. I was trying to push him to do it and he seemed pretty reluctant to do it,” Kessinger told Frederick Police Department officers in Colorado.
Kessinger spoke with police on Aug. 16, one day after Chris was arrested for his family members’ murders. Although Kessinger believed Chris and Shanann were separated, she told officers she regretted not waiting until they were officially divorced.
I would have preferred to do this if we waited until the contractual agreement was done. Instead it was, 'Oh we're separated and we're working on a divorce,' and that is the part that I feel bad about because I should have waited on that and I didn't,” Kessinger explained.
Kessinger recalled visiting Chris at his Colorado home on July 4 and then later on in mid-July. Looking back now, the mistress recalled feeling uncomfortable.
“I just didn’t want to be there,” Kessinger told police. “That is not my life. That is somebody else’s existence and I respect that.”
The secret lovers carried out all of their other dates at Kessinger’s house, or out in public at local restaurants, she said.

Kessinger also claimed to police that she did not want to get in between he and his kids because they had “barely” dated long enough. Plus, she said Chris never asked her to.
The mistress said that during her visits at his home, she observed a bed in the basement, where he claimed he had been sleeping since separating from Shanann.
Kessinger said the affair carried on for six to eight weeks. During the relationship, the pair sent “raunchy” texts to one another .
“I just don’t want anybody to get some of those texts. They have nothing to do with this case,” she told police as she agreed to turn over her phone records. “They’re just kind of raunchy. I don’t need that posted somewhere!”
Chris was sentenced to life in prison without parole for Shanann and their two daughters’ deaths.
Hours after killing his family, Kessinger said she was on a video phone call with him, RadarOnline.com reported.
At the time he told Kessinger he was busy cleaning his home.
