While authorities initially focused their suspicions on the family, the Ramseys always insisted that an intruder must have gained entry to their home, killing their daughter, hitting her with a heavy object before strangling her with a cord. The murderer even fed the young girl pineapple shortly before she died, leaving remnants in her stomach which would provide one of the most puzzling of all pieces of evidence.
