Jennifer Hudson and fiancé David Otunga have split after ten years together, RadarOnline.com can confirm.
Hudson’s rep revealed the news in a statement to PEOPLE, saying: “They have been in the process of ending their relationship for a number of months.”
The singer also “requested and received a protective order against her ex-fiancé.” Hudson, 36, and Otunga, 37, are parents to son David, 8, and according to the rep, her actions “are solely taken in the best interest of their son.”
Otunga’s attorney also released a statement following explosive news.
“Mr. Otunga has never abused or harassed Ms. Hudson or their son, and it is unfortunate, especially in today’s climate, that she would feel the need to make these false allegations against him,” Tracy M. Rizzo told PEOPLE. “Mr. Otunga looks forward to his day in court and in being awarded the residential care of the parties’ only child.”
The former wrestler proposed to The Voice coach after less than one year of dating. They welcomed their child soon after.
As RadarOline.com previously reported, six years into their relationship, the stars were already leading separate lives, and a sources even said it was unlikely that the wedding would ever happen!
Jennifer Hudson herself once told Wendy Williams: “My thing is once I get married, I don’t believe in divorce, so when I get married, it’s for good. We want to be completely sure we are together, we’re happy.”
