Russian Election Hacking & Trump Loyalty: Watch James Comey's Shocking Testimony
June 8 2017, Updated 2:57 p.m. ET
James Comey, the FBI director fired by President Donald Trump, is testifying before Congress this morning, breaking his silence for the first time since leaving his post.
The testimony, which kicked off before the Senate intelligence committee at 10 a.m. ET, includes contradictory accounts of Comey's time in office under the Trump administration — especially in regards to the infamous Russian election hacking scandal.
"The Committee looks forward to receiving testimony from the former Director on his role in the development of the Intelligence Community Assessment on Russian interference in the 2016 US elections, and I am hopeful that he will clarify for the American people recent events that have been broadly reported in the media," Intelligence Chair Sen. Richard Burr of North Carolina said in a statement in late May.
Comey also faces questions about his private interactions with Trump, and whether the president abused his power in demanding loyalty from the former FBI chief.
As RadarOnline.com readers know, President Trump gave Comey the ax after his performance failed to live up to the demands of the job.
The former FBI director said his final farewell last month, insisting he won't be dwelling on his sudden departure from the bureau.
"I have long believed that a President can fire an FBI Director for any reason or for no reason at all," he said in a farewell letter to fellow staffers.
"I’m not going to spend time on the decision or the way it was executed. I hope you won’t either. It is done, and I will be fine, although I will miss you and the mission deeply."
