Gloria Estefan came face-to-face with death on March 20, 1990, when a horrific tour bus accident left her almost entirely paralyzed.

On that day, the “Conga” singer, 60, was on the road with her husband, son and two of her crew members in Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains when a tractor-trailer jack-knifed across the icy road in front of them.

Estefan’s driver, Ron Jones, stopped in time to avoid a crash, only for them to get slammed by another tractor minutes later.

Now, nearly 30 years later, REELZ’s new docuseries, Collision Course: Gloria Estefan, is giving viewers an inside look into Estefan’s accident, as well as shocking interviews with the singer herself!

“I knew I couldn’t move. I knew I was paralyzed at the moment. I knew the minute that I tried to move my legs and I couldn’t move how serious it was,” says Estefan in a throwback interview from the show teaser.

While Estefan eventually recovered after a complex spinal surgery, what was it that really caused the terrifying car crash?

Collision Course: Gloria Estefan airs Sunday, August 12 at 10:00 ET / PT on REELZ.
