Dave Navarro may be a known rockstar today, but as RadarOnline.com has learned, the 51-year-old musician had to overcome a series of horrific personal tragedies before reaching the top.

When he was just 15, Navarro’s life changed completely, as his mother’s hateful ex-boyfriend turned into a heartless killer and took her life. Now, REELZ’ new docuseries, Geraldo Rivera’s Murder In the Family: Dave Navarro, is giving viewers a look back at the dreadful crime.

“At around 10:45 one quiet night in March of 1983, three muffled gunshots are heard coming from a west L.A. condominium. Two women lay dead inside: one the mother of a future rockstar,” says show host, Geraldo Rivera, in the teaser.

“Today, her son Dave Navarro, guitarist for Jane’s Addiction, thrills audiences with his unique style of play. Within this multi-talented performer though, lies a tortured soul. As a teenager, Dave loses the family member he cherishes most, taken from him by a violent, jealous man, driven to kill,” he adds.

John Riccardi roamed free for nearly eight years before being arrested and charged with the murders of Navarro’s mother, Connie Navarro and his aunt, Sue Jory. He was soon given a life sentence without possibility of parole, but by then, heartbroken Dave had already fallen into a dark downward spiral of drugs and crippling depression.

Geraldo Rivera’s Murder In the Family: Dave Navarro airs Saturday, December 8 at 9 ET/PT on REELZ.
