In a heart-stopping piece of video, surveillance cameras captured the moment a baby stroller carrying a 14-month-old girl rolled off a train station platform in Philadelphia Wednesday afternoon and fell right onto the tracks, in front of the child’s horrified mother.
Fortunately, the little girl’s mom acted quickly and jumped onto the tracks to rescue the child, with the help of fellow passengers; the child suffered only a cut to the forehead, which was treated at a local hospital.
"What it looks like to us is that the mother became distracted by something, didn't apply the brake on the stroller and the stroller was able to move off the platform and onto the tracks," Scott Sauer, director of system safety for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, said in a news conference late Wednesday.
The platform at the station is slanted slightly to make drainage easier, Sauer explained.

Sauer called watching the video "gut-wrenching."
"With the stroller moving at such a slow rate of speed, you know, you want to call out to someone, `Hey, the stroller's moving! Somebody grab the stroller,"' he added.
SEPTA police said no charges will be filed in connection with the accident.
