Abby Lee Miller Diagnosed With Cancer After Horrific Paralysis & Surgery
Two days after Abby Lee Miller received an emergency back surgery, doctors have determined she has worsening non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma — a type of cancer. Her shocking diagnosis comes after the former Dance Moms star’s surgeon told reporters she was being treated for a spinal infection.
As RadarOnline.com readers know, Dr. Hooman M. Melamed told PEOPLE that Miller, 51, had become paralyzed from the neck down and her health was in fast decline before the operation. He added that she was extremely close to death just moments after she was rushed to Cedar Sinai Marina Del Rey Hospital with “excruciating neck pain.”
“It was not an infection, it was a type of a non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma – it’s a type of a cancer,” Melamed confirmed to the publication after his previous misdiagnosis. “We’re getting an oncologist involved and we have to figure out what the next steps are as far as chemotherapy or radiation or more spine surgery. Depending on the tumor type, depending on the sensitivity of the tumor – it just depends the type but I feel more than yes, she will undergo chemotherapy or radiation.”

Miller’s rep also spoke of the star’s condition, saying: “preliminary diagnosis pending pathology and oncology results.”
While Miller has begun to regain feeling in her lower body, and her spine surgery went well, Melamed claimed “There’s a chance this can spread to any part of the body… this is probably coming from somewhere else.”
“We don’t know where the source is. Any tumor that spreads anywhere is automatically Stage 4, but we have not determined the stage yet,” he added, assuring that nonetheless, Miller seems “encouraged” and “optimistic” about her recovery.
Abby Lee Miller was given one-year prison sentence following two years of supervised release. She was serving time at an LA halfway house when the crisis occurred.
