Move over, Kate Middleton! Prince Harry's new girlfriend Meghan Markle has all eyes on the L.A.-born actress who has reportedly captured his heart. But with her fame brought some terrifying moments, too. Click through to find out why some of her fans began threatening her life at one point.
During a sit-down with Piers Morgan on Nov. 12, she admitted scary encounters she's had with fans, specifically ones who follow her character Rachel in the drama series Suits.
"People wanted to kill me! Not Rachel… ME. I never knew there were so many emojis with guns and knives. It was very unpleasant. Fortunately, Rachel got back on her pedestal and it stopped," she told the Daily Mail.
So when Markle, 35, was later attacked by online bullies, it was a surprise Prince Harry, 32, took it upon himself to defend his new girlfriend.
"The past week has seen a line crossed. Harry's girlfriend, Meghan Markle, has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment," the Kensington Palace said in a statement. "Some of this has been very public — the smear on the front page of a national newspaper; the racial undertones of comment pieces; and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments."
"It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him and Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm," the statement continued. "He knows commentators will say this is 'the price she has to pay' and 'this is all part of the game.' He strong disagrees. This is not a game — it is her life and his."
Relationship rumors began to swirl when Prince Harry was spotted hopping on a jet to head over to Canada last week for a secret meet-up with Markle, where she currently lives and films Suits.
But Markle's own sister admitted that she'll be surprised if their relationship stays on track. "The royal family would be appalled by what she's done to her own family. The truth would kill her relationship with Prince Harry. He wouldn't want to date her anymore because it puts her in a bad public light. I certainly don't think Harry or his family would want to associate with her afterwards."
As RadarOnline.com reported, Markle has already had one divorce from producer Trevor Engelson after being married from 2011 to 2013.
