Rock That Style! The Best, Worst & Wackiest Dressed Stars At The 2014 Video Music Awards
Aug. 24 2014, Published 11:10 p.m. ET
MTV’s Video Music Awards show has always sparked headlines, as fans have seen Kanye West interrupt Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech, Beyonce confirm her pregnancy by rubbing her baby bump, and Miley Cyrus twerking and stroking Robin Thicke’s crotch with a foam finger! And this year’s show could be just as bizarre because nominee Chris Brown is embroiled in controversy after a nightclub shooting at his VMA pre-party.
Stars will also push the envelope on the red carpet. So who looked fabulous and who looked freakish? Click on RadarOnline.com’s photo gallery to see the best, worst and wackiest stars at Sunday’s 2014 VMAs red carpet at the Forum in Los Angeles.
2014 MTV Video Music Awards – Red Carpet
2014 MTV Video Music Awards – Arrivals
Best: Kesha: Tik Tok, she’s improving her style as time goes by. Continuing her trend of more tasteful dressing, the 27-year-old singer looks downright ballroom ready in this long embellished gown that accentuates her curves. Kesha, you’re a lady!
2014 MTV Video Music Awards – Red Carpet
Wackiest: Solange Knowles: Is she ready for another elevator battle? Knowles looks super minimalist and grim in this black pantsuit. And the makeup and hair, does she care? Maybe Solange is making some sort of subliminal statement as her sister Beyonce, rumored to be on the outs with hubby Jay-Z, is queen of the VMAs.
2014 MTV Video Music Awards – Arrivals
Wackiest: Ireland Baldwin And Angel Haze: Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger’s gay model daughter and her rapper galpal look like they didn’t make the effort to match when they left the house. While Baldwin goes provocative in a shredded black dress and pointy orange shoes, Haze is total tomboy in a short green dress. She’s more coffee house than awards show. Together, the looks clash badly.

Wackiest: Miley Cyrus: The former Disney cutie, 21, who changed her image in a huge way by twerking to infamy on the 2013 VMAs, looks like a harem girl in high-waisted black leather pants and matching tube top. She’s flaunting her Wrecking Ball rough edges--but incredibly, it’s more modest than her stage getup last year!
2014 MTV Video Music Awards – Red Carpet
Best: Adam Levine And Behati Prinsloo: The newlyweds aren’t taking the VMAs too seriously from the looks of it, and that’s just fine for a model and rock star. Levine and wife Brinsloo’s matching black leather ensembles (accented with sunglasses), evoke a relaxed vibe.
2014 MTV Video Music Awards – Arrivals
Worst: Demi Lovato: What a shame! The pretty young singer’s long red dress is ill-fitting and more appropriate for an older woman. She’s also too covered up for a hot Los Angeles day.

2014 MTV Video Music Awards – Arrivals
Worst: Usher: Sorry, but is just too casual for a red carpet. White shirt, black pants, white high-top sneakers and shades would be fine for a Voice taping, but we expected more at an awards show. Usher, get a stylist!
2014 MTV Video Music Awards – Arrivals
Worst: Kendall Jenner: Kris Jenner’s model daughter, 18, has to work to look bad but she achieved it at the VMAs. The high-waisted black pants suit Kendall’s long body, but the matching bra-style top with sheer underlay just shows what she hasn’t got. And the skinny arms make you want to throw a blanket over her.
2014 MTV Video Music Awards – Red Carpet
Worst: Rita Ora: The British singer looked great at the MET Gala earlier this year, but this shows she’s no Marilyn Monroe. The red satin dress looks cheap and Ora badly needs a bra. Her necklace also is too much. Just plain tacky.
2014 MTV Video Music Awards – Red Carpet
Worst: Kylie Jenner: Oh so vampy for a 17-year-old. The KUWTK little sister looks like she’s dressing up in mommy’s clothes and old lady shoes. Goth-y Kylie is sure to get slammed again for age inappropriate attire—and check out the Angelina Jolie style leg flash! Worse, her face appears immobile.
US-ENTERTAINMENT-MTV VMA-ARRIVALS
Wackiest: Gwen Stefani: Okay, it’s the VMAs, so it’s understandable to dress a little “out there.” But why would you want to look like the Pink Panther? The back of the singer’s dress is black which makes it even more schizophrenic.
2014 MTV Video Music Awards – Red Carpet
Best: Jennifer Lopez: 45 and fabulous! JLo puts the younger women in the shade in this glittering, form-fitting cutout gown that hugs her curves. Not much to say except she’s super sexy -- and who needs Casper?
2014 MTV Video Music Awards – Arrivals
Worst: Common: Report to the Starship Enterprise! The rapper makes us think of Star Trek with this odd top and the rest of it is wrinkled and boring. He would have looked great in an edgy suit.
2014 MTV Video Music Awards – Arrivals
Wackiest: Chris Brown: The R & B singer under a cloud of controversy after rap producer Suge Knight got shot at his pre-VMA party lets it all hang out. Brown’s plaid shirt is falling around his waist, he’s sporting red sneakers and looking disheveled. Was somebody up all night?
2014 MTV Video Music Awards – Arrivals
Worst: Taylor Swift: What a disappointment! The usually classically retro singer decided to flaunt her legs in this patterned blue onesie with dark gladiator shoes that don’t match. She has great gams, but the bare look is too much.

2014 MTV Video Music Awards – Press Room
Wackiest: Katy Perry: The Roar pop singer got all tricked out in a strapless long denim dress that looks more fit for the Country Music Awards with belt and matching purse. It’s wacky and yet…very charming as Perry seems to be dressing with a sense of humor once again.
2014 MTV Video Music Awards – Arrivals
Worst: Lucy Hale: The petite Pretty Little Liars star made a mistake in pairing an edgy black leather crop halter top with a too girly skirt that drags her down. This outfit has a double identity and doesn’t quite say VMAs. Plus, we think crop tops have jumped the shark!
2014 MTV Video Music Awards – Arrivals
Worst: Ali Fedotowsky: The E! hostess and former Bachelorette donned a black strapless jumpsuit and statement necklace but the outfit wore her instead of the other way around. Messy hair and an overly smoky eye makes you focus only on the wild bling. Would a red lip have helped?
2014 MTV Video Music Awards – Arrivals
Wackiest: Wiz Khalifa And Amber Rose: This couple never lets us down with their bizarre style. Khalifa’s baby mama Rose looks like a sexy Vegas stripper, leaving little to the imagination in this stringy number which shows cleavage, tummy, and thighs. Meanwhile, the rapper Khalifa looks too dressed down in a graphic shirt and black leggings.
2014 MTV Video Music Awards – Red Carpet
Worst: Beyonce: The Queen of Music could have done better than this dowdy black dress and big earrings that don’t go with it. Pretty smile and pose, though, and as far as the VMAs are concerned, she’s always a winner.
2014 MTV Video Music Awards – Arrivals
Best: Nick Jonas And Olivia Culpo: This is one adorable pair. Although Jonas’ girlfriend Culpo dares to bare with a low black V neck, she somehow still manages to look like Miss Universe instead of tacky. And Jonas complements his beauty pageant gal with a buttoned up look and white tie.
2014 MTV Video Music Awards – Arrivals
Worst: Jordin Sparks And Jason Derulo: They are so sweet and affectionate, but too matchy matchy for the VMAs. Also, Former American Idol Sparks and her musician boyfriend Derulo both look wrinkled in their white ensembles. Too bad Sparks’ asymmetrical dress doesn’t fit properly
2014 MTV Video Music Awards – Arrivals
Worst: Kelly Rowland: We hate to pick on a pregnant lady, but the singer and TV reality judge’s long dress is too shiny. And it’s hard to get past Rowland’s odd braided Heidi hairdo.
2014 MTV Video Music Awards – Red Carpet
Best: Julianne Hough: She’s the new Dancing with the Stars judge this season, and the dancer/singer/actress looks poised and happy in a Grecian style dress. Hough, 25, is not showing off, which is refreshing in this crowd.
