Just one block from where the Oscars will be held on Sunday night, famed card magician Daryl Easton was found dead at Hollywood's legendary Magic Castle on Feb. 24.
Authorities were called to the scene after employees discovered the 61-year-old's body in a closet.
According to a spokesperson at the scene, Easton was only in his underwear and had a bag over his head, where it appeared he hanged himself.
"A beloved illusionist, who was performing at the Magic Castle this week, was found dead on the clubs' premises," the spokesperson shared Saturday morning.
"The magic community mourns the loss of one of our most beloved and talented performers," they went on.
Easton was scheduled to perform one of his shows that evening, but was in the closet around 7:30p.m. local time — moments before he was supposed to take the stage, according to NBC Los Angeles.
Easton was well-known for his card magic and was adopted into Magic Castle's Hall of Fame over the years. In fact, no magician had earned more awards than Easton. However, fans are now speculating his depression had taken over.
The late star posted on Facebook over a week ago, telling fans in southern California to "stay safe" during the deadly storm. "Thinking of all our SoCal friends," he wrote. "I'll be heading down that way myself tomorrow for a week at The Magic Castle."
