Lindsey Vonn has remained mum about her two-year relationship and subsequent split from scandal-ridden golfer Tiger Woods — until now. In her new book, Strong Is the New Beautiful, the Olympic gold medal skier tells all about her whirlwind romance, and why Woods just wasn't there for her when she needed him most.

In the spring of 2012, the 31-year-old says she first met Woods, and began dating the divorced father of two, 40, later that year. By the beginning of the 2012-2013 ski season, "I was confident, my training was going well, and my life was in a new and exciting place," she recalls.

After an injury in early 2013, Vonn says she "started spending more time" with Woods, who "helped" her get through her setback. "He was also a professional athlete, after all, and had undergone similar career-threatening surgeries," she writes. "I found it soothing to have someone of his caliber understand what I was going through."

After regaining her strength, Vonn was injured again while racing in the World Cup. In a heartbreaking twist, she could no longer compete in the 2014 Olympics. "That winter, I sank into a depression," she reveals.

Though she underwent knee surgery in Florida, Woods' home state, he was rarely around due to his "busy competition schedule" that "didn't leave him much time at home."

"I felt like I needed a friend to help me though yet another long, grueling recovery process," she remembers. In Woods' absence, she adopted a dog named Leo from a local animal shelter, and later adopted a second pup from foster care.

"That winter and spring I suffered many dark days as I wrestled with my current reality…there were many days when my physical therapist, Lindsay Winninger, had to pull me out form under the covers," Vonn claims.
"There were days when I could see the light at the end of the tunnel, yet more often than not, everything looked black," she admits. "I shut down, keeping to myself in my bedroom with only Leo for company."

By late 2014, she was back, and broke Annemarie Moser-Proll's record of 62 World Cup wins on January 19. 2015. "My parents, stepparents, sister Laura and Tiger had all flown to Europe to watch me race," she gushes.

Despite the victory, Vonn says she split from Woods a few months later. "Our relationship had become increasingly difficult to maintain, given our conflicting event schedules and two different homes across the country," the Colorado-based skier explains. "While we parted amicably, I was grateful to have both dogs with me that spring to keep me company and help me through the separation."

Vonn may speak kindly of her ex, but according to reports, Woods' fling with pro-golfer Jason Dufner's ex-wife, Amanda, actually let to the end of their romance. However, reps for Boyd vehemently denied an affair. (Woods infamously checked into sex rehab after cheating on his ex-wife, Elin Nordegren, in 2009.)

One year later, Woods' career is not only in the dumps due to a back injury, but his personal life is at a standstill, RadarOnline.com recently reported. "He can't handle adult conversation at all and spends hours watching kids shows on TV, making model airplanes and even collecting stamps and sticker albums," an insider claimed in June.
