A newly slim Lena Dunham strut her stuff on the red carpet on Saturday night. But the Girls star usually known for her more real world shape is admonishing fans not to focus on her body changes. Dunham, 30, showed up at The Human Rights Campaign 2017 Gala Dinner in Los Angeles and raised eyebrows with the dramatic new look. Click through Radar's gallery for more.
Dunham thrilled the crowd at the March 18 L.A. Live event, wearing a black sleeveless v-neck gown, a big bracelet, and bright red shawl. It was a far cry from Dunham's sometimes frumpy street attire!
The Girls star's dramatic weight loss has been making news this week. Dunham appeared at the opening of personal trainer Tracy Anderson's new studio in New York and fans commented on how much thinner she looked.
The always outspoken actress immediately posted on Instagram about her recent weight loss, writing, "I feel I've made it pretty clear over the years that I don't give even the tiniest of sh*ts what anyone else feels about my body. I've gone on red carpets in couture as a size 14. I've done sex scenes days after surgery, mottled with scars. I've accepted that my body is an ever changing organism, not a fixed entity."
Dunham worried people had an unhealthy obsession with her body and its changes. She noted on Instagram, "Don't we have infinitely more pressing news to attend to? So much love to all my web friends who demand that life be more than a daily weigh in, who know their merit has nothing to do with their size, who fight to be seen and heard and accepted. I love you."
The star known for her candid sex scenes on HBO's Girls implied her weight loss might be due to health issues, posting on Instagram, "Right now I'm struggling to control my endometriosis through a healthy diet and exercise. So my weight loss isn't a triumph and it also isn't some sign I've finally given in to the voices of trolls. Because my body belongs to ME–at every phase, in every iteration, and whatever I'm doing with it, I'm not handing in my feminist card to anyone."
As Radar has reported, Dunham has never been shy about flaunting her body whether heavy or thin. She rocked her bikini body in 2015 for a charity race. Recently, Dunham told her fans, "I smile just as wide no matter my current size because I'm proud of what this body has seen and done and represented. Chronic illness sufferer. Body-shaming vigilante. Sexual assault survivor. Raging hottie."
Lots of regular gals identify with Dunham's curvy shape that is not always toned. Radar reported in 2015 that Dunham swore off Twitter at one point because of body shaming.
"I refuse to celebrate these bullsh*t before and after pictures," Dunham sighed on Instagram. Instead, she's crediting famed trainer Tracy Anderson, best known for working with svelte Gwyneth Paltrow, "for teaching me that exercise has the power to counteract my pain and anxiety…."
