In the latest episode of Kendra On Top, Kendra Wilkinson revealed that she attempted suicide twice and was institutionalized. She then blamed her mother Patti Wilkinson as the reason for her teenage failures. But RadarOnline.com has uncovered the cold, hard truth about Kendra's wild and dark childhood, according to a source close to the family.

Kendra freely admitted on the show, she wasn't exactly a model child. "Kendra pulled a lot of shenanigans when she was younger," a source close to her mother tells Radar. "She was doing drugs and running with the wrong crowd."

Kendra's troubles may relate to the fact that her father, Eric Wilkinson, left them to move to Florida when Kendra was young. "Eric was nowhere around," the source says. "Eric left around when Kendra was 5 or 6."

"Patti was left to raise their two kids," the source says. "She was working to provide a life for them and was the sole provider for that family."

But as Kendra got older, the source claims, she started having problems. "Kendra would take off in her teenage years," the source says. "She would take off for days on end and leave Patti to wonder where she went."

"At one point, Patti did the tough love thing with Kendra," the source says. "She told Kendra, 'My house doesn't have a revolving door. You either abide by my rules or you leave.' Kendra left. She was about 16-17 when this happened."

"Kendra didn't like her mom's ultimatum," the source says. "She was running with a crowd that was into drugs, she was missing school. She used to be in sports and did well, but then she started hanging with the wrong crowd."

When she was 18, she filmed a sex tape with her high school boyfriend, Justin Frye. It was later leaked.

"It came to the point where Kendra went to her grandmother Mary and asked her to talk to Patti for her," the source says. "She wanted to go home. That lasted three weeks and she was back at it again."

But while Kendra claims to have tried to take her own life, the source knows nothing about those circumstances. "That's the first I've heard of it," the source says. "They did make her check into a place to get help because she had a drug addiction, but that's all I know."

Despite all the troubles Kendra had over the years, Patti has never given up hope for her daughter. "Patti tried to have structure and she did tell Kendra she loved her," the source says. "To this day, Patti is heartbroken when she talks about it."
