Home Alone star John Heard's tragic death has stunned fans, but many of the secrets and scandals of his bizarre personal life have been long forgotten. The actor, who died at 72, had brushes with the law after allegedly abusing his baby mama, actress Melissa Leo, years ago and was once briefly married to troubled Superman star Margot Kidder. In fact, Heard had three marriages that failed. The Big actor has also been blasted for having been a neglectful bad dad to his son Max, who died just months before Heard, as RadarOnline.com has reported. Scroll through our gallery for more.
In 1991, Heard was arrested and charged with third-degree assault for allegedly slapping his baby mama, Frozen River actress Melissa Leo.
In 1994, as STAR reported, Heard lost a bitter tug-of-love custody battle that had been going on since 1988 for his namesake son John Heard (also known as "Jack") with Leo. Heard lost in court because a judge ruled Heard had abused Leo in front of the boy.
In 1996, as Heavy reported, Heard was arrested for allegedly stalking Jack, his son with Leo, in Baltimore where the actress and the boy lived.
"I fear for the safety of my son and my safety" Leo told police at the time about Heard, as People magazine noted. Leo's then-boyfriend, John Russell, also accused Heard of striking him in the chest and neck.
In 1997, Heard was found guilty of trespassing at Leo's home in Baltimore, Maryland, but acquitted of charges of trespassing at their son Jack's school.
Heard commented about being found guilty of trespassing at the home of Leo, then on the TV show Homicide and mother of his son Jack, "I was found guilty of looking in a window and calling people too many times."
The actor was best known for playing the dad who leaves his son, played by Macaulay Culkin, behind in Home Alone, but Heard's own private life was a shambles. He married his first wife, Margot Kidder, in 1979 and they divorced in 1980, according to the Guardian, splitting up just SIX DAYS after the wedding. Years later, Kidder had a well-publicized meltdown.
But that isn't all. In addition to Kidder, he has two other former wives, Sharon Heard and Lana Pritchard. Sharon and Heard had two children together, son Max and daughter Annika. And Heard's second wife, Sharon, dissed his parenting last year. Sharon wrote in Max's obituary when he died in Dec. 2016 at only age 22 that he had missed not having a father figure. His third ex-wife, Pritchard, told RadarOnline.com in an exclusive interview that their marriage was short-lived because she met another man.
