“Joe works out up to five days a week, and has lost a lot of weight as a result,” a prison source told RadarOnline.com. “He even worked in the gym for a time.”
Another insider close to Joe called fitness his “only stress reliever” — and said he had no choice but to cut his calories due to the practically “inedible” food options.
As RadarOnline.com previously reported, Joe is also working on his mental game by studying to take a GED test.
Joe’s motivation is to make up his years of misdeeds to wife Teresa, who also served time on fraud charges. “He knows Teresa blames him for all their troubles but he wants to make it up to her and be legit,” the second source said.

Teresa admitted in her latest memoir that she may divorce Joe if he doesn’t shape up upon his prison release.
Joe checked into prison in March 2016 on multiple fraud charges, and is expected to be released in March 2019.
However, he still faces a possible deportation back to his native Italy.
Teresa finished a one-year sentence in December 2015, just months before her husband headed to the slammer for his more than three-year confinement.
Joe is also attempting to kick his admitted heavy drinking habit by entering alcohol abuse treatment in prison.
